Harmony at the Heart of Beaver Island
TUNES Music Makers provides accessible, high-quality music education and creative opportunities to the Beaver Island community, with a special focus on improving the mental health and well-being of both young people and older adults. By fostering creativity, building confidence, and strengthening social connections across generations, we enrich lives while preserving the islandโs unique musical heritage. Our mission is to ensure that every member of our communityโregardless of age, background, or financial situationโcan experience the transformative power of music as a tool for personal growth, emotional wellness, and cultural continuity.
Music Lessons for Every AgeโWith Youth at the Center
Lessons run inย 12-week sessions. Before each session begins, we review registrations and award scholarships based on need and available funding. To stay true to our mission and serve the community responsibly, we prioritize scholarships forย school-aged students first, followed byย senior citizens, and thenย adults if funding remains.
And in gratitude for their service:ย Veterans receive music lessons at no cost.

Norah will teach a song or two, and Brian will take us deeper into the history behind the music, exploring the Irish-influenced songs that were collected throughout the Great Lakes and the white pine belt of North America.
Brian is a ๐๐ซ๐๐๐ญ ๐๐๐ค๐๐ฌ ๐๐ซ๐ข๐ฌ๐ก ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ข๐ ๐ก๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ๐จ๐ซ๐ข๐๐ง whose work focuses on finding, researching and bringing these regional songs back to life. Through The Lost Forty and his Northwoods Songs project, he has spent years researching rare traditional songs, including music connected to the Great Lakes region. His work has been featured on ๐๐ซ๐๐ฅ๐๐ง๐โ๐ฌ ๐๐ร ๐ญ๐๐ฅ๐๐ฏ๐ข๐ฌ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐๐ง๐ ๐ซ๐๐๐ข๐จ ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐๐, as well as ๐๐๐ ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ข๐จ, and his research earned him the ๐๐๐ซ๐ฌ๐จ๐ง๐ฌ ๐
