Harmony at the Heart of Beaver Island
TUNES Music Makers provides accessible, high-quality music education and creative opportunities to the Beaver Island community, with a special focus on improving the mental health and well-being of both young people and older adults. By fostering creativity, building confidence, and strengthening social connections across generations, we enrich lives while preserving the islandβs unique musical heritage. Our mission is to ensure that every member of our communityβregardless of age, background, or financial situationβcan experience the transformative power of music as a tool for personal growth, emotional wellness, and cultural continuity.

Music Lessons for Every AgeβWith Youth at the Center
Lessons run inΒ 12-week sessions. Before each session begins, we review registrations and award scholarships based on need and available funding. To stay true to our mission and serve the community responsibly, we prioritize scholarships forΒ school-aged students first, followed byΒ senior citizens, and thenΒ adults if funding remains.
And in gratitude for their service:Β Veterans receive music lessons at no cost.
If you are interested in lessons, we encourage you to apply under Registration.

Sometimes you just have to set the fiddles down and let the music take over ππ»
Our advanced fiddle class did exactly that, taking a break to dance along to Miss Rubyβs fiddlinβ and it was pure joy.
We are so excited and incredibly grateful to share that TUNES Music Makers has been awarded a 2026 Arts and Culture Grant from Charlevoix County Community Foundation. This means Ruby John will be returning for another fiddle residency during the 2026β2027 school year.
What a gift this is for these kids and what a commitment from Ruby to travel back and forth to Beaver Island to keep this music alive and growing. We feel so lucky to have her as part of our TUNES family ππΆ

The award will be presented by folklorist and historic preservationist Dr. Laurie K Sommers, May 23rd at 7:00 PM, at Holy Cross Hall during our 5th Annual βIs Everybody Happy?β Party.
This event also serves as the annual fundraiser for TUNES Music Makers, created in Edwardβs memory. Edward believed deeply in keeping music at the heart of Beaver Island. Through TUNES, that spirit continues to live on in the next generation.
Join us as we honor his legacy and celebrate the music and traditions that make Beaver Island so unique.

Weβre so grateful to have a space of our own in the heart of Beaver Island where music is coming to life every day. Students are learning from their teachers, discovering new instruments, and playing together in ways that bring them closer to their peers.
TUNES Studio is proof that a small dream can have a big impact. πΈ
